Unix is the oldest operating system still in use today. The term "Unix" is often used to describe POSIX compliant operating systems in general.
There are several commercial Unix variants like IBM's AIX, SGI's IRIX and HP's HP-UX. Currently there is a dispute between Novell and SCO as to who owns the Unix source code.
There are several open source derivatives based on BSD Unix like FreeBSD, NetBSD and OpenBSD. Apple's OSX is a heavily modified derivative of BSD.
Several clone operating systems are largely compatible with Unix, but are completely independent of the original Unix source code. These include Minix and Linux.
